# Welcome to Fignis

> A short note on why Fignis exists.

We are the two people behind Fignis, and we started building it because every serious financial decision in our lives ended up in a spreadsheet, or in a Python script. One day, we realized the script was getting too complicated. “I wish there was a tool that helped me optimize this decision visually, without having to run code every time I want to test something,” we told ourselves. So we decided to build that tool. And here we are.

## What is Fignis

Fignis is a long-term planning and simulation tool for personal finances. You model your accounts and investments, your income, expenses, and so on. You add future events and decisions, and it generates a projection of your situation over time. What makes Fignis different from other calculators and tools is that it acts as an abstraction of reality, giving you a much more precise prediction than what you could build with a spreadsheet or an LLM. You can see not only the money you may have, but also the time you have. The time left until you can become financially independent, retire, reach your goals, and more.

> **The core idea**
> Fignis is about helping you make financial decisions and understand how they affect your time.

We did not want to build another budgeting app, or an app for tracking every coffee you buy. We did not want to build something that felt like a toy, or a nice-looking dashboard that ultimately said very little. The idea is to realistically abstract a financial life, with unexpected events, uncertainty, hypothetical scenarios, and the ability to play with it. To understand how things work, and to understand the impact of your decisions.

The app has just been born, and we are still building it as two founders with a fairly clear idea that knowledge is power. We want Fignis to be a tool that helps you visualize the consequences of your decisions and motivates you to reach your goals.

## What this blog will be

We want this blog to be a place to share product notes, lessons, decisions, and reflections. It will not be a financial advice blog, nor an economic news site. It will be a blog about what it is like to build a tool like this, and about what we learn along the way.

## Thank you for arriving early

If something seems confusing, useful, or clearly improvable, tell us. At this stage, feedback changes the product faster than any roadmap. Remember that the app has just been born, and that we are building it with great care. You can reach us on Discord or by email. We read everything.

Thanks for reading, and welcome.
